Connect remotely to ultralite - connection string

$

Hi everyone,

Is there possible to connect to Ultralite/Mobilink DB remotely?

It seems that both ADO.NET and ODBC connection strings simply ignore "Host", "Links" and "Port" parameters.

ULConnectionStringBuilder and ULConnectionParms don't have any suitable parameters too.

JDBC Connection to SQLAnywhere 11.0.1

I'm working on extracting information from a SQLAnywhere 11.0.1 database to migrate them to a more recent solution.

However, I'm running into problems getting a JDBC connection to work.

I've found references to two different JDBC drivers.

  1. jconn
  2. sajdbc

However, I am not able to connect using the information from either of these.

I am connecting over a network. I can provide the host, server, database, username, and password. But I am unsure of the connection string format to do so.

And especially when attempting to use the jconn JDBC driver, I am getting an error of other, I assume to be dependent, files missing: "Error connecting to database: (using class com.sybase.jdbc3.jdbc.SybDriver)

no dbjdbc11 in java.library.path"

Copy table from different database

$

Hi

If I want to copy an existing table in the same DB I would use something like this

INSERT MyTable_Backup ON EXISTING UPDATE WITH AUTO NAME SELECT * FROM MyTable

Assuming I can lookup the name of the server and the database I want to copy from

e.g.

Server = S002

DB = MyDB21

How can I use that to copy from a different database, or even a different server?

Thanks

Hi,

is anyone aware about Code Coverage tool for SQL Anywhere. E.g. to track which lines of code within stored procedure,functions, and triggers that have been tested by an application/test scripts? Or, suggest how this could be done in SQLA.

SELECT when one column might be NULL

$

Hi,

Inside of a stored procedure I'm doing the following

SELECT T.LineId,T.Qty

FROM TransactionRows AS T

WHERE T.ArticleId = @ArticleId AND T.LotNumber = @LotNumber;

@ArticleId contains the "article number" that I want to select, and @LotNumber contains the "lot number".

The problem is that @LotNumber might be an actual value, OR IT MIGHT BE NULL.

If @LotNumber is NULL, the SELECT above FAILS.   However, if it is NOT NULL, it doesn't fail.

After many years working with databases I hadn't realized this until now ....

To get the correct row(s), if @LotNumber is null, I would have to write:

SELECT T.LineId,T.Qty

FROM TransactionRows AS T

WHERE T.ArticleId = @ArticleId AND T.LotNumber IS NULL

The complete statement would be:

IF @LotNumber IS NULL THEN

  SELECT T.LineId,T.Qty

  FROM TransactionRows AS T

  WHERE T.ArticleId = @ArticleId AND T.LotNumber IS NULL;

ELSE

  SELECT T.LineId,T.Qty

  FROM TransactionRows AS T

  WHERE T.ArticleId = @ArticleId AND T.LotNumber = @LotNumber;

END IF;

Is there a more elegant way of doing this?

Thanks,

Edgard

Mobilink ASA remote database synchronizing with two consolidated database (MySQL)

Hi Community,

Is there a way to have a Mobilink ASA remote database synchronizing with two consolidated databases (MySQL)?

I have an scenario in which we need to  synchronize an ASA remote database, my scenario have a MySQL consolidated database and in the remote database also have a MySQL database. We need to put in the middle mobilink in order to synchronize both databases, so we need to have a publication from MySQL consolidated to ASA, an another publication from the MySQL remote database to the same ASA in order to synchronize all the changes in a group of tables.

In order to do that, we configure the following:

1. A first project to synchronize the MySQL consolidated database with a ASA remote database.

2. A second project to synchronize the MySQL remote database with a different ASA remote database.

3. A third project to synchronize the ASA's database, we tried in this way because if we use the same ASA remote database the data is not synchronized, but we have the same results having two ASA database because in appearance all the changes applied through mobilink are marked or are omitted in the other project, so the synchronization works without error but does not detect the rows inserted via the other mobilink project. If we insert in the ASA database manually it is correctly applied, the problem is in the insert/updates made through the other mobilink project.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion.

Best Regards

Douglas

Connecting to SQL Anywhere DB without DSN

$

Hello, all

I need to connect to multiple SQL Anywhere databases without creating DSN for all of them. The client is Win32 PB Classic.

THe application is connected to the main DB, which contains a table with connection parameters to the other DBs. THe connectino parameters include server, dbn and host. This is not enough to connect to SQL anywhere DB. I assume I either need a DSN name or the driver name.

Now, if creating the DSN is not possible, how can I locate the driver of the connecition the application is currently using. I could not find it in the connection_property function or the connection info or anywhere else.

Can anyone help?

Thank you

All sales transactions query need to add the inventory

Hello,

We have a query that allows us to select a range of dates for the sales transactions that have been processed during that period of time. However, we would like to add to this query the total quantity of stock on hand after the sale happened for each transaction.

Almost like the beginning inventory balance subtracted by the sale transaction at the end of the report.

SQL Anywhere and DisableBind=1, An Open Manhole Cover?

$

I posted this in the PowerBuilder Forum and posting it here to get more information from the SQL Anywhere Community and also to expose an issue which might unknowingly be affecting others.

I have been tracking down the issue of corruption of our Rich text in our PB 12.6 app and discovered via communications with PowerBuilder and SQL Anywhere Support that if you set DisableBind=1 in your connection, that SQL Anywhere will look for character string sequences inside varchar columns and translate them to special characters when storing them in the database.

So for example a \n anywhere in the string sent to the database via a datawindow column will be converted to a newline in the database.  If you didn't want this to happen then you need to find and replace \n's with \\n's which is will translate to \n as stored.

We had seen this previously in our data occasionally, but assumed it was a data entry error, however it shows up most obviously with Rich Text stored in long varchars, because in PB 12.6 the Rich text Control sequences include some formatting instructions which have a \no... string in it - and the \n is replaced on the way to the database.  When you re- retrieve the data you will see the characters owidctlpar preceding your text.  This is a corruption of \nowidctlpar.

I have yet to discover what other character sequences can be corrupted - but its safe to say that you cannot trust the integrity of any varchar column inserted into the SQL Anywhere database (6 through 16)  if your connection includes DisableBind=1.

Your options are pre parse the strings and replace the \n with \\n , Set DisableBind=0, or use a Blob.

So it looks like we are in store for some system wide re-engineering.  I know we needed to DisableBind Variables as some point in our development history.  Some of it may have had to do with the size of some of our SQL Queries.  There is some light mention of  Bind Variables in relationship to the datawindow in PowerBuilder, is there any robust documentation on the impact of Bind Variables or how a datawindow interacts with the database?

Newbie: No "dbserv" in SQL Anywhere 17 Installation

$

Hello all,

First, thank you in advance for your help. I recently purchased SAP SQL Anywhere 17 and I'm having trouble.

I should mention that I am not a database expert or programmer. I only need to install SAP SQL Anywhere 17 because it is a basic prerequisite for another, separate software package from a different company that my small company uses to manage our clinical trial data.

So, I purchased SAP SQL Anywhere 17 from the SAP store. I chose this configuration option at the time of purchase: "SAP SQL Anywhere, Edge Edition, workgroup version (core)". I can find no explanation as to what "Edge Edition" means, but I think workgroup version (core) is correct.

After downloading the files (Windows) and running through a fairly straightforward installation process, I began the installation of our clinical trial data software, which failed. One of the few files that is absolutely required is "dbserv" which is supposed to be part of the SAP SQL Anywhere 17 installation, according to the vendor for our clinical trial software.

Any ideas as to what I did wrong? We have an old version of Sybase running on an older server with the same clinical software and it is working fine. The SAP website is so complicated that I don't even know where to begin to request technical support for this basic installation question. It was nightmarishly complicated just to purchase the software and then download it through the software download portal. My company only has 8 employees and we're using this software to manage our small database, so we are not a giant multinational client.

Evaluate date field, use only if not null/empty in query.

$

We have this query:

select LastReqTime,

BlockedOn,

UncommitOps

FROM sa_conn_info()

WHERE LastReqTime < DATEADD(mi,-60,GETDATE()) AND BlockedON > 0 AND UncommitOps = 0

Normal data example would be 2016-05-17 17:03:42.721 in LastReqTime.

As one can see by my code, I'm checking for LastReqTime older than 60 minutes. If the field is null or empty, the code errors. I need an IF or CASE or even a nested select statement that will allow me to check the LastReqTime for notnull, I would guess !='' OR perhaps a field length greater than 0. I was hoping for a valid date/time evaluation, but apparently it's quite a bit more complicated than that Since I need results fast I figured I'd ask the experts here (of course it would be here). Thanks in advance.

Show all returns from a query without manually sort, also count returns by value

I have this code:

select LastReqTime,

BlockedOn,

UncommitOps

from sa_conn_info()

WHERE LastReqTime < DATEADD(mi,-60,GETDATE()) AND BlockedOn > 0 AND UncommitOps = 0

An example of the return is:

Is there a way to instruct SQL to return and show all values, without limiting the display? In the above

query, it shows the first 115 rows and I must manually sort or scroll down to see the total number.

Also is there a way to get a count of each unique BlockedOn value, for use in a different query?
